LINUX on AMD Athlon 64

Dear All, Just for info. Would like to know which FC3 kernel can we load on the AMD Athlon 64 2800+. Is it FC3-x86_64 ot the FC3-i386 kernel. Anyone who is using the above mentioned processor with LINUX ?. BTW is Athlon 64 x86_64 or i386 compatible. rgrds, rc

In the case of lilo u have to reinstall lilo everytime u edit the /etc/lilo.conf. Also grub allows editing of every parameter at boot time. It can also read file systems, provides a shell (grub shell) and has online help. So it's very handy if you are juggling distros, kernels and drives. BIG FAT WARNING: write down what ever u are doing to prevent disaster. Some distros do not create the menu.lst. So get one and copy it to /boot/grub. Grub numbers disks and partitions starting with 0. So hda5 - the first logical partition on the primary ide - is (hd0,4) eg root (hd0,4) Ideally install windoz first. Then the other distros. Also create a mount point for the partition which holds /boot/grub in all the installs, so that u can edit menu.lst easily. Software used on, and for using, clusters * File Systems (Intermezzo, ClusterNFS, DRBD...). * Installation and Configuration Software (FAI, System Installation Suite...). * Monitoring and Management Software (Ganglia, MOSIXVIEW, Performance Co-Pilot...). * Programming and Execution Environments and Tools (MPI, PVM, spread...). * Miscellaneous (things that don't necessarily fit into other categories well). SquidGuard vs DansGuardian

Hello, I need some advise or review of SquidGuard and DansGuardian comparison. In my experience, SquidGuard runs very stable in my environment (around 2 years) and "integrated" to Squid, but it seems no more development. I never use DanGuardian that claim better than SquidGuard. Hope you would give me your review of products. Regards, Komal

We having a distro shootout or what?. Anyways, the most imp like Dr. Shahrukh also mentioned is to be aware of the boot loader config. Keep one main gnu-linux partition as bootable, do not re-write the mbr for any other distro you install. Copy the kernels from all your new installs to the main gnu-linux boot partitions and just keep appending the entries into the /boot/grub.conf file. This way you can manange any amount of operating Systems on one machine. The tricky situation one can get in is with the *BSDs. With careful configuration you can get through on this one too. You could again choose the Gnu-Linux grub boot loader to boot into the system For Sun Solaris 10 x86 i would suggest you get an additional HDD and save you some paracetamols. MS has enough of documentation and hence you should find configuring that a breeze. Who ever said FSF/OS fanatics aren't open minded. Boooooooooooooooooooooting your way around..:D.
