hey folks.. im a new comer in the linux world and need debian linux for my BE project(on linux HA clusters using DRBD). anyone has an idea how i can get it? i live in chembur and study in thadomal shahani engg coll in bandra. if ne1 living in either of these two areas can help me with it i'll be very grateful.. also if ne1 is working on the same project as mine or similar one ,i would like to interact.. thx..linux rocks..

Hello, I am trying to install GTK2.6 and while installing one of the dependencies - Pango 1.8.2 - I encountered some problems: I have posted the details in the gtk-list mailing list http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-list/2005-August/msg00149.html Now while running the configure script I have noticed something weird. pkg-config is used to find packages already installed. I have installed a utility - fontconfig-2.3.2 - in /usr/local/lib and the .pc file resides in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig I have set the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig With this setting, when I issue the command: pkg-config --modverion fontconfig it returns 2.3.2, which is correct Now the problem: When I run the configure script for Pango-1.8.2 it cheks for fontconfig and returns version number 1.0.1 which is not correct. After digging I found an older installation of fontconfig in /usr/lib and the corresponding .pc file in /usr/lib/pkgconfig This older version is 1.0.1 but I want to use the newer 2.3.2 version (in /usr/local/lib). I don't understand why the configure script finds the older version and not the new one even after the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH is properly set. I am also running the configure script with --prefix=/usr/local Digging deeper, I noticed that even xft anf Glib libraries are showing the wrong older version in the configure script. Can someone suggest a fix for this. I am not an expert. Hello, With reference to my earlier message: I just checked the configure script in detail and I realised my interpretation was wrong. Sorry about that. Nice learning experience though. The configure script checks for fontconfig version 'greater than' 1.0.1, which exists and is proper. Same thing with xft and Glib. All proper. However, I still am not able to install pango. Getting Connected to Internet :(

Hello Friends, Its again me the great old problem child... Now landing here with old problem...in a different way... Im not able to connect Red Hat Linux 9 to internet..Im using Sify broadband ...I have already asked abt this issue in a previous mail..Where in i din't know a bit abt Linux..So friends in here helped me out abt saying how to do it using "neat" command.. I used this command and i have specified my static IP,Gateway,my prefd DNS and alternate DNS also....The state of my connection shows active :( but im not able to even ping the local gateway...also since im not able to ping the local gateway im not also able to use the sify BB client to connect to internet... I tried it whole of last nite didnt work at all :( don't know where im going wrong... please do guide me ...Im not sure...I think i mite get some yellings coz im posting the same issue again...But its ok..I can learn things :) Thanks in advance.. eth1 showing as dev609

hi, i have this small problem. i have 2 NIC (eth0 and eth1) one of the cards suddendly fried. so we got it replaced. but now if i do ifconfig instead of regulare eth0 and eth1, it shows dev609 and eth0. actually it works, but just feels different to call your NIC something like dev609. anyone know how do i revert back to eth1 as it used to be? -- Life is complex. It consists of real and imaginary parts.

Fresher needs help!!

Hi Linuxers, I have done my B.E in computers and am looking for a job.However my problem is that all the jobs opening out there are for .NET / SAP / ERP / Visual Crap etc etc. I did not find a single opening (for fresher) in systems programming (c/c++ in *nix, device driver etc) My friends say its foolish of me looking for such a job and that i must take whatever job i get . But my concern is if i take any SAP/.NET etc job what are my chances of switching to a systems job (which is what i want to do ultimately) I have done many hobby projects in linux.Right now im studying "Advanced programming in unix environment" by Richards. But i feel all this is gonna get wasted if i dont get a "good" job. Looking out for some good advise from you all. flames > /dev/null :) If any one wants to share their first job experience they are welcome. P.S : Any one knows of such job opening plz plz inform me. --------------------------------------- We would change the world.... but GOD wont give the source!! ---------------------------------------
