hdc error

hi all these days there is one error in my system which keep on scrolling whenever i try to install any new rpm. error is something related to hdc on which my linux is installed. ########### hdc error {uncorrectable error} LBA 242674 error dma_intr device error etc........... ######### even when i am trying to check rpm database using db_verify command its again giving errors that database error. now i don know its something wrong with disk or rpm database. can any of you please help me in recovering from this . thanku all, linux bee in my next mail i'll send you the exact error Yahoo! Google uses some type of ranking based on number of times a word comes in a linked page (never bothered with details). This has been used in the past, most famous being linking evil or something to microsoft website. Google removed it when it became popular and comon knowledge. There are lots of documents on how to take a google ranking up. This one is done by community effort. If many different websites same the same thing, ranking goes up. Denmark-Guwahati Hookup

It will include perhaps the world's largest quasi-Wifi network (non-cabled nets) where people from across the world are gathering to research technology implementations in open networking. Radiophony has facilitated a global hookup which will go live on Sept 5 between 1400 and 1600 hrs IST. The purpose of this online workshop, which will bring together active technologists in the Denmark Festival with students attending the Techniche 2004 festival organised by IITG in Guwahati, is to research possibilities for deployment of open wirefree networks in developing countries. The intended beneficiaries of this initiative are the poor and others denied access. Anyone interested in this topic is welcome to join in and participate. -- Vickram

GLUG-BOM activities.

Greetings, The list seems to be back to life. Thanks to all for help. I am sorry I could not attend the last meet. Few improvements/contributions I noticed which have not been highlighted are as follows, 1. We have scheduled meets for coming 2 months, with many more GLUG members helping in co-ordinating the meets, I am sure we are doing a much better job now. 2. The website has been updated with the latest information. Thanks to website maintainers for the same. 3. Thanks to the TIFR team to provide us with the IT infrastructure for making all this possible. Please suggest any more activities that we can do on the list. Few inputs from my side are : 1. I would like if we can 2-3 trial meetings during working days, there have been many requests for the same. (Probably the Oct meet??). We can check if there is enough enthusiasm for the same and decide if we should continue with it. 2. We should have a gift certificate from GLUG-BOM given to speakers for giving a presentation at the meets. 3. Trevor wanted to have a CD library, I also feel the need to have a GNU/Linux distribution channel. 4. A method to collect some money for the activities, domain registration, stationary charges for certificates, etc. This mail is just a thought. Please feel free to put your own ideas and comments. phonetic Indic keymaps for fedora core 2

Hello, i tried using the phonetic devanagari layout available at http://www.gnowledge.org/Data/Objects/kblayout/keymaps.phonetic.tar.gz on gnome (fedora 2). using the keyboard switcher added to the panel, I am already using inscript devanagari and it works well. can somebody help me out. Mozilla Calendar

Hello Frndz, Mozilla.org has released the first "official" beta release of Mozilla Sunbird, a standalone calendaring application. The Sunbird Project is a redesign of the Mozilla Calendar component, with a goal producing a cross platform calendar based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language. Sunbird is aimed at users who want a calendar application based on Mozilla. The software works with the Mozilla Firefox web browser and the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client. Two flavors of the project are available -- one that works as a plugin to Firefox/Thunderbird/Mozilla (known as "Mozilla Calendar"), and the standalone calendaring application, currently known as "Mozilla Sunbird." The group says that it hopes to improve footprint size and performance by focusing solely on the standalone calendar, and "by removing components and chrome we don't need." While Sunbird is still considered experimental, it is currently stable, according to the project. Additionally, the group says that although "Sunbird" is currently being used as the project's name, it may not be the final name for the software. The software is available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X and can be downloaded here. Screenshots of the calendar in both modern and classic themes are available here. Sept 12, 2004 GLUG meet

The agenda for the Sept 12th GLUG meet is slowly shaping up. Prof. DB Phatak of IIT Bombay will be one of the speakers. Prof. Phatak is the person responsible for persuading LIC to shift 10,000 desktops to Linux and has been evangelizing the use of FLOSS in engineering colleges across India. He is on the IT committees of many central and state government organizations and is therefore a highly influential figure. I will reconfirm his participation and circulate details of his talk next week. His talk will be followed by a talk on the licensing issues relevant to FLOSS by technology lawyers, Ms. Nappinai and Subramaniam Vutha of the Technology Law Forum. They work closely with the Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell and I have asked them to address the issue that Linux Torvalds recently raised in an interview to Businessweek magazine (see link and excerpt below my signature). This is becoming an issue that all of us are getting increasingly concerned about because Open Source has so much promise for India, but the licensing issues hold so much peril. I hope everyone finds the upcoming GLUG meet an enjoyable and educative experience. A: From a technical standpoint, I don't see any real challenges. Linux has come a long way in the last 13 years. I'll do another 13 years if that's what it takes. Technology wise, we're great. And we'll get better. The only things I worry about are all the things that go around the project. Part of it is legal issues. It's not that I think Linux has legal problems, but that the system doesn't work as well as it should, and crazy things happen, like the SCO suits [SCO (SCOX ) claims IBM (IBM ) breached a longtime contract by providing SCO-owned technology to Linux developers and has filed a lawsuit claiming $5 billion in damages. The trial isn't expected to start until November, 2005]. They will get slapped down in court. But as Linux gets really important, strange things come up. Software patents concern me. I worry about some greedy companies -- possibly failing ones, trying to make trouble and abusing the system. Software patents, in particular, are very ripe for abuse. The whole system encourages big corporations getting thousands and thousands of patents. Individuals almost never get them. We have random people in random countries working on random things, and they don't have 1,000 patent lawyers. So I'm not worried about one patent in particular, but the whole system. It's not a problem today. But it's a thing I can't control, unlike the technical side, where I can actually do something. I'm not that concerned about the threat of Microsoft (MSFT ) enforcing patents against Linux. I think their mode of operation isn't through the legal system. I think they hate lawyers more than most companies. They've been on the receiving end. [CEO Steve] Ballmer and [Chairman Bill] Gates have pride in the fact that their competition may have tried to crush them with legal wars, but they overcame. I think they would have a hard time using legal tactics. They would be ashamed. -0-

Problem with USB HID subsystem!

Hi, I am facing a problem with a USB device. This device is an HID device (i.e. not a keyboard/mouse/joystick). The Linux kernel is able to recognize the device as a HID device and load the appropriate modules. Using the HIDDEV ioctl's , in my application, I am able to get the vendor indetification, string descriptors and applications that the device supports. My problem is the following. This device supports a certain protocol using which commands can be sent to the device and it will respond with appropriate information. However, I do not know how to use the available IOCTL's in the hiddev usb subsystem to issue these commands to the device. I have been successful in writing my owm device driver for this device (i.e. bypassing the hiddev interface) and with this I can issue those commands to the device and get the information. Now I want to do this same thing using the hiddev interface and the facilities it provides. Any pointers will be helpful. Regards, Ashok Iyer

I wrote a little perl script that reads through the pipermail archives and lets you know whether a message is top-posted/overquoted/has long lines/excessively long signature/disclaimer attached to it. microsoft has obviously misread the market. There have been repeated suggestions to them for lower pricing in asia on buyer power basis. Instead they have come up with this really stupid option. They don't seem to realise that asian consumeras are more tech savy and very conscipous of cost-benefit analysys. It is going to leave many managers read in face soon. If reports are accurate, networking has either been crippled or disabled entirely and they've stripped the OS down to such an extent, that only 3 programs can run concurrently. So, if you have a firewall and an antivirus running at all times, (and with Windows you do; you really do) then you simply _cannot_ multitask. If this is MS's much-touted response to Linux, they must *really* be hard up for ideas. Just my 2-pice. = v i s t a s p = bT Square Peg P.S. Calling it "Starter Edition" was a baaad move... Post Installation Probs about RH9.0

Dear Linux users, Absolutely NEW to Linux, I recently installed RH9.0 and the installation went very well. However, when I tried to play MP3 music or any other cd, it did not respond. Although the song files were displayed in the window, even double clicking didnt help. The tray also does NOT eject and the only way to get the stuck cd out is to REBOOT the pc. I also couldnt configure the Internet access wizard 4 dial-up access. If I wish access Internet thru Cable system how do I configure it coz our Cableman doesnt seem to know about it. Somaiya are available here Overview: The Free Software Foundation of India held a seminar cum workshop on GNU/Linux and the Free Software Paradigm (read SSP: Swatantra Software Paradigm) at KJ Somaiya College of IT, Sion, Mumbai. Dr. Nagarjun G., on behalf of the FSF introduced audience to the GNU Project and how to be a part of the Free Software Movement. * The Principal of KJSCIT introduced audience to speaker for this meet/workshop Dr. Nagarjun G. from Free Software Foundation. After Saraswati vandana, and a brief tea/coffee session, Nagarjun introduced audience to the GNU Project and Free Software Foundation India. He took us to the days of MIT hackers and explained the concept of Free Software at that time and brought us to this day where GNU Project is making a steady progress towards its HURD Kernel. A general question/answer session followed with Nagarjun answering questions pertaining to Free/Open Source and comparing various Unix flavors and windows systems. [after which everyone left for lunch :-) ] * After lunch, it was time for a demonstration of various Free Softwares that are giving a tough challenge to their proprietary counterparts. A hands-on demonstration of working around with GIMP 2.0 and Blender were presented. A sample movie created using Blender made everyone bite their nails. After which it was time to learn how to type/program at the speed of thought, using GNU Emacs. He demonstrated us how to create new macros in emacs so as to improve our speed and efficiency while typing/programming. (any vi fans there yet?) * Before starting a formal question/answer session, we went through the K Menu and saw what all applications are packed onto that single Knoppix 3.4 live CD. That brought us to a formal question/answer session followed by a demonstration of how to install Knoppix 3.4 on harddisk, hook on to internet, mount partitions and mess around with lilo. And another fun filled FSF Seminar came to an end with another round of tea/coffee and distribution of Knoppix 3.4 CDs and participation certificates. Hi, I have NEVER attended a seminar as good as this. Let me tell ya, i have been using Linux from 2 years, but this seminar cleared many of my most important doubts. Prof. Nagarjuna's speech was awesome ! Sitting in the front row, i had this very wonderful opportunity to grasp everything i could from this great person. I am so happy that i answered doubts of some of the people there. At the end when i looked at my watch, i was shocked to see that it was 5:30 pm. I was totally immersed in that event , and after a long time, i was unaware of the time. I cant explain how i felt but, it was a fantactic experience ; looking from a whole new paradigm ! Hi all, I guess we are all going off on the wrong foot here. If Anil wants someone to hack into a linux box which is said to be proprietory, it seems that he is the wronged party since he did not recieve the source along with the binary as per the GPL. Linux can be as proprietory or as open as you want. It just depends on to whom you distribute the binaries. If you don't distribute, then you can do whatever you want with the sources without giving it out to anyone. Anyway, from what I see about Anil's requests, he wants someone to hack into a linux box and install some software. This may or may not involve writing any software. It may be more a question of finding out weaknesses in the linux distribution on the box and exploiting them. Doesn't look like any GPL is being violated here though the ethics may be questionable. Several interested independent persons campaigned strongly for an 'exchange' (the facility that handles such a task - google for 'IX' if you would like to learn about this) and to the total dismay of all, the ISPs complicitly handed over the job to GoI, which later set up NIXI in Delhi and Mumbai. Unfortunately, NIXI is almost completely underutilised, mainly because its terms and conditions for interconnection are perverse and unrealistic. The result is the major ISPs, several of whom have created their own international bandwidth, do not use NIXI, and it is too expensive and too much hard work for the small ISPs (assuming there are any left), because a little professional networking skill is needed for their admins, who mostly don't exist at any real level of competence. I cannot see any reason why the government should 'force' anyone to do anything these days. It has consistently hogged tasks that it had no business to get into over the years, probably because when they succeed (and even when they don't: who looks once the ribbon cutting is over?) the politicians look good and the bureaucrats are given shiny awards for their dedicated years of spouting Sanskrit slokas. If the exchange is run on a professional basis then not only mail but even mirrors will come up fast here, saving uncountable millions of bucks in international bandwidth now being wasted on pointless shuttling up and down of packets that need never have hit those circuits. What the government needs to do is ensure that the playing fields are as level as possible for all kinds of participants, not only MNCs or conglomerates with cross interests in a number of media plays. Sadly, even the smaller ISPs have not acted to rectify this situation, because (and this is my opinion, Devdas - who also was active on exchinnet - is in a far better position to comment) the best thing to do was set up an alternative to NIXI. They didn't do it two years ago, and I doubt they will now, when they are even more squeezed on revenues. -- Vickram

Most distros include a utility called xvidtune. Start up X and run this - it allows you to change the monitor timings that affect the size and position of the display area. Once you have adjusted things to satisfaction, xvidtune can save the settings to your X config file so that they are used the next time you start X. Note that the program has a warning that fiddling can damage your monitor, but as long as you change one setting at a time in small increments you should be fine - I've used it plenty of times & it's never blown up a monitor for me yet :-) Always keep in mind that you can kill an X session and get back to the prompt in an emergency by pressing ctrl-alt-backspace. Mono VGA Monitor under Linux

We are shifting out of Windows to Linux using Red Hat Linux (7.3) and Ethernet Cards that boot off the server We have many (old) Mono VGA monitors (Make: Samtel / Microtek) Under Windows 98 we get a full screen display by setting the following paramters in display settings a) 640 x 480 b) 60 Hz c) 256 Colours Under Linux with those same settings we get a screen that leaves an empty area on the top and bottom i.e. screen display is not full screen. If we use a colour monitor all is ok i.e. we get full display Can we do the some settings (software / hardware / cable) to get fullscreen under Linux with a Mono VGA monitor -- basically we want to hold down the cost of the switch from Windows to Linux without investing in colour monitors Regards Ajit Gulanikar

Sept 12th LUG meet

At the August 8th LUG meet it was decided that the organizing committee for the September LUG meet will of Nirav Mehta, Narayan Kejariwal and myself. This meet will be held at IIT Bombay, Powai. The three of us are coordinating amongst ourselves and our plan is to get one well known speaker from industry, and one expert in legal issues to speak on GPL and patenting issues. If there are any recommendations for either of these, please let us know. For the October 10th LUG meet, Mitul has volunteered to organize the meet. Incidentally, Michael Tiemann, Vice President, Open Source Affairs, Red Hat Inc will be in India in the second week of October. He is an excellent speaker and it would be good to have him address the LUG meet. The only problem is that he is coming during the week and our LUG meets are always held on Sundays. Perhaps these can be two seperae events. Red Hat is willing to host his talk. Perhaps the October LUG meet organizing team can suggest what can be done? Mitul? qmail clustering query

Hi Guys I m planning to build up a Qmail cluster based on RedHat advanced server 3.0 FOr the shared stoarge quorum requirement of RedHat , i m planing to have a small Compaq/HP shared JBOD box of about 100GB However for the maildir storage , i m planning to have it exported out of an NFS (exported by some NAS ) | Qmail-1| | Qmail-1| --------- --------- | | | | SHARED STORAGE (100 GB) ----------- |NAS Server| (2 TB) ----------- The 2 servers wil mount their respective /home/maildir out of the same NAS export. The idea is that if any of the server goes down the other will take up and be able to serve all the users. Clustering is thru the use of Redhat Advanced server cluster .. not through HeartBeat or the likes Google tells me that maildir is **absolutely safe ** on NFS ... 403 Forbidden Error when Document Root is empty

Hello This is the first time I am configuring Apache on a Knoppix server. We use Redhat most of the time. The problem is if there is an empty directory in the document root, it gives me a 403 Forbidden Error. In Redhat, in a similar scenario, the directory index used to be displayed. Ok, the problem seems to be that it's initialising a USB mouse, which I don't have. I have a USB printer though. It's possible that this causes a conflict that restarts the comp. Philip -- He keeps differentiating, flying off on a tangent.

My dad and sis in Bombay are having trouble booting into linux. They tell me that the system hangs when it comes to loading modules. At some point in the last month CMOS got reset and it started giving floppy drive errors (I don't have a floppy drive). A friend fixed the BIOS, and windows can boot, but linux won't go past the loading modules part. I need to ask a big favour. Someone who thinks they can fix this will have to drop in to Bandra and try and fix it. I'm available if you need to ask anything, but I'm not sure when I'll next be in Mumbai to test things. I really don't like the idea of them connecting to the net through windows, and most of what they need to do is through linux, so I really need someone to help fast. fedora core 2 slows when internet is connected

I m using Fedora Core 2, I have dial up net access using the reliance mobile ( ftdi usb driver) I m facing an irritating problem- whenever i start any application when the internet is connected the new application takes a lot of time to start up (whereas the older already open apps work perfectly fine) and as soon as i disconnect suddenly all the apps that i had clicked pop up My machine has 394MB RAM so i don't think it is a problem with memory. Software Freedom Day : South Africa

On August 28, Free Software enthusiasts in South Africa will be celebrating Software Freedom Day. GNU/Linux user groups (LUGs), companies, organisations and individuals from around South Africa will get together to raise a toast for free and open source software. This is scheduled to be an annual event aimed at increasing awareness about free software. The initial call to declare a software freedom day was started in the US and has since been taken by organisations around the world. Software Freedom Day was also celebrated in India by the Free Software Foundation India. The activities spread over a day included a discussion on copyrights and society, a presentation on the Thunder by Anand Babu, an exhibition of IT related caricatures and posters etc. Some publications and short films were also screened. In South Africa a local website has been established to publicise the day and events have been planned for shopping centres, universities and schools throughout the country. As the day is designed to promote the use of Free Software, most organisations taking part in the celebrations will be handing out Free Software and giving members of the public a chance to see what it is capable of. Many organisations will be handing out a copy of The OpenCD, a collection of free software that can be used on Microsoft Windows. For users wanting to try out the GNU/Linux operating system organisations will also be handing out copies of Knoppix as well as other GNU/Linux distributions. oracle installation problems on FC2

hi..i`m getting the following error while installing ORACLE 9i on my FC2 box... "Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall0/jre/bin/jre. Please wait... /tmp/OraInstall0/jre/bin/../lib/i686/green_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread Could not create Java VM " i have jdk & ofcourse jdk installed...how ever..the oracle setup also carries it own jre file...in the path..shown i n the above error... pliz help. Hi dhanesh, Could you please be specific on which sites u have problems with coz I can ask other admins to test them..and we'll find out whether the problem is specific or general. Well as rishi pointed out Masquerading may help...but then the purpose of caching pages is not met. Check /var/log/squid/access.log it will show u if the component has been rejected or a MISS..maybe if u could send specific logs...might clinch the problem..! I use a sify gateway to the internet..and they use a cache engine based on squid..! I'am not able to log onto http://chat.mantraonline.com the applet cannot connect to the server. Configurating the monitor etc for X

Hi Long ago there used to be a command line utility called Xconfigurator which would probe the monitor and other things and write these settings in XF86Config. This utility was there till RedHat Linux 6. Afterwards it was discontinued. I have a RedHat Linux system installed (RH 9). If I chanage the monitor, X doesn't work. because the monitror has to be configured. Is there any command line utility which can help probe and configure the monitor. I tried searcing for Xconfigurator on the net, but the rpms and srps on http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/20917/com/Xconfigurator-2.0.1-1… give the errror messsage "not an rpm package (or package manifest):" I need either Xconfigurator source code or some other similar utility. regards Abhijeet D Mhatre

Hi , I'm back with another query for a BSP.....N= FS mounting. I have configured everything correctly. For booting, via Grub, instead of using DHCP,BOOTP or RARP , I'm just p= assing kernel command line arguments, like : root (hd0, 0) kern= el /boot/bzImage rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=.... ip=..... = The kernel boots fine, it takes in almost all the parameters correctly, lik= e, bootserver, rootserver, nfsserver, host ip, host name, gateway ip, etc, = etc...... However, the parameter rootpath= is left blank. The error following this is as follows, VFS:Cannot open root dev= ice "nfs" ro 00:ff Please append a correct "root=&qu= ot; boot option. Hi, Today i got Java Desktop System 2003 ...i`m getting an error during setup saying "An error has occured during Installation"...i checked out the jds forum and other related sites....but didnt get any help....so anyone who has used Sun Java Desktop ...pliz help me(btw...Sun java desktop is based on suse 8.1)...i get the error when loading of YAST2 fails..dunno for wat reasons...but suse 8.1,8.2 and 9.1 worked properly on my system...i doubt there might be some problem with the cd...pliz help... Hi, I have started working on linux last 3 months back and i found it very good in terms of operating and security. My querry is how can i run virtual computers on my single system.. Here is an e.g for what i mean I have my windows OS and in windows OS i need to install Linux so that i can boot linux in windows and after booting i need to configure a network with linux and windows in the same session. Hello Luggers, Does anyone know how to do = a NFS mount WITHOUT using tftp or dhcp or bootp? I have a kern= el compiled on a client machine having NFS support. I have a Embedded= root filesystem ready on the Nfs server and I have already exported its co= ntents. portmap, nfsd and mfslock are running on the Nfs serve= r. Now, if I mistake not, by passing appropriate arguments to = the bootloader (i.e.Grub in my case), we can make the kernel from the clien= t machine boot and mount the remote root filesystem(residing on the server) Is this actually possible? Lets reach on consensus , and we hold the 8 th august meet at Onward Novell. let our luggers learn more on Novell. I totally disagree with Sir. Nagarjuna with all my respect for him, abt Redhat distributing CDs and other media, after all its a part of an exchange, and exchange between the Industry and our community, what use would this community would be of if we keep our selfs Isolated from the Industry. Our vision says knowledge sharing, which includes knowledge sharing with the Academicians, Industry, GNU users, Developers, and all of them whom we can think of. If Redhat can attract few more users by distributing freebies whats the hitch. let fools come to collect freebies, and the wise come to collect knowledge. About every months meetings my point of view would be:- 1. every alternate month lets keep our meeting in some of the leading academic colleges, so that more awareness can instilled among students, for they are the ones who shall carry this GNU movement further. (Remember catch them Young) 2. the alternative month venue could be any where, would be a good idea if its with the industry, and major open source players like novell and redhat. (So Novell India meet on 8th is an excellent Idea). for which some of us should really take initiative and help in organizing at various but different venues. According to Manojit Majumdar, who heads sales & marketing at ELX India, "With PC users being so accustomed to Windows interface ELX Linux has invested tremendous effort in making the BizDesktop as close as possible to Microsoft's Windows. The results are encouraging: we have managed to create a virtual emulator of sorts that clones most Windows functions perfectly." This is directed at eliminating concerns whether one would be able to adapt to this OS after using Windows. The desktop comes with Mozilla, OpenOffice, GIMP (Linux's answer to Adobe), project management software and graphical tools. BizDesktop also integrates WINE that enables users to install and run many Windows native applications. A single CD installs the entire OS. "...BizDesktop can more strongly emulate Windows than Red Hat desktop. For e.g. right click pop-ups, zipping procedures, etc. are all exactly the same in BizDesktop as in Windows. We have also added a launch pad feature that accumulates a users favourite and most frequently accessed application set in one single window. Samba has been configured in such a way, that users can run multiple OS' including Windows on the same client. It will be 8-9 months before any Linux distro can catch up with us", says Majumdar. 30 desktops at the Hyderabad High Court were converted from Microsoft to BizDesktop 4.0. They had tested Red Hat Linux on the desktop front earlier, but continued to use Windows. BizDesktop 4.0 was mapped to match their requirements and the deal was bagged. NIC was the technology advisor for the Hyderabad High Court deal. With the success of the project, NIC has added ELX on its Linux vendor list, which previously consisted of Red Hat, SuSE and Sun. Gurgaon-based DLF is also in the process of negotiating a deal with ELX. BizDesktop follows a differential nomenclature to avoid any patent issues. For e.g., instead of 'My Documents', we have 'My Docs'. Similarly, the 'Network Neighborhood' icon has been replaced by 'My Network'. The Control Panel gives exactly the same kind of GUI interface that Windows offers, allowing users to add/delete software/hardware in exactly the same way. ELX has tied up with LG in Hyderabad for bundling BizDesktop on their desktops and the company has already set up sales and support offices in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi. BizDesktop 4.0 is available for Rs. 500 (plus taxes). The company has plans to tie-up with courier company GATI to provide a Cash On Delivery (COD) option to users placing orders from remote locations in the country.

I had open office 1.0 before upgrading FC-1 to FC-2. Due to this upgradation open office got upgraded to open office 1.1.1. I am doing a project which is dealing with Localization of RDBMS (Postgresql). so I have to use some Hindi data in documentation or reports. but this new open office was not supporting it as previous one was. so I decided to install open office 1.1.2 with hindi support. but this is also not working with Hindi data. the problem is same. open office responces very slowly. also overall speed of the system has degraded after upgrading FC-2. Even I uninstalled open office & checked speed for other applications( like starting up mozilla, gedit, ayttm etc..) but it was not as good as it was in FC-1. Tally Problem

I've partinioned my hard disk such that I've got winxp on hda1: loaded Tally on this partion. Loaded wine on fedora2 and mounted the windows partition on /mnt/win Accessed Tally through wine /mnt/win/Tally?tally.exe Tally works fine and I can create a new company. Problem arrises when I try to port the old tally data into this the same directory (The old data was entered through windows) it does not port. Any Ideas as to what could be the problem ? Dual Boot Problem

Hi I Have install My winXp on my C drive which is primary partion & have install suse 8.2 on logical partion of same HDD. now if I want to Remove Suse from my HDD without disturbing XP ,how should I do that . coz if I remove suse by deleting it from my XP disk Manager then every thing goes right but when I restart my computer it sows me grub error. & I Cant Access my WinXP. Thats is why, when you make a system dual-boot, the first thin= g you do is make sure that both the boot loaders (grub and ntloader) are in= dependant...using chainloading. Thus, when we remove one OS, t= he other OS is completely independant and all you have to do is remove the = deleted OS's entry from the existing bootloader. Now, you can = try by booting into XP with a bootable cd and giving fixmbr at the pr= ompt. I noticed that the Open Office that comes bundled along with Debian (deb) came another separate package called 'oooqs-kde' package... FC2 acting funny !

Hello ppl, I had installed FC2 on my machi= ne and it was working fine for a week. While I was away, it seems tha= t someone has messed around with it. I have a SCSI tape drive along w= ith SCSI hard drive installed on the same machine. Now, the funny part is t= hat, till last week FC2 was working fine; presently When I reboot, my machi= ne boots from the SCSI tape drive. Server too slow high loadavg

Dear ALL, I have been using apache-1.3,php-4.0,horde-2.0,imp-3.0 on HP BL350, with 4GB ram, 4CPU with no issuses. But when I upgraded to php-4.3,horde-2.2.5, imp-3.2.3 on same machine it is dead slow i am not able to login to horde, it logs me out and when i see loadavg its 11. What could be the problem?
