c++ library reference ???

Hi I fail to understand how the GNU software foundation fails to provide a free downloadable library reference for C++. If there is any, please please let me know. How would a C++ programmer hope to understand the C++ library without it. regards Abhijeet

Mirror Debian packages not iso.

dear users, could someone mirror the debian dist pool instead of mirroring the iso's since, any one can download a 30 mb cd image and then install the packages he needs instead of downloading the whole cd. there is one mirror in banglore but its seems go down frequently. popularizing linux in my college

hello luggerz remember i told u abt the gnu/linux seminar in my college.. we've discussed abt the dates with the college authorities and suggest 1st week of october preferably 4th and 5th oct... comments plz.. the ppl who are gonna attend will be from the comp deptt so we want it to be a bit more technical this time, u know stuff like compiling c and java, and other programming tools and some netwroking and maybe samba n all too. If all dont grasp that much maybe some of us will.. the travel and stay of the ppl who visit us wud be totally our responsibility. the place is in distt sangli abt 8 hrs on bus from mumbai. the ppl who are interested plz reply to me off the list.. thankyou Gurpreet

Motorola SM56 modem driver for RedHat 7.3

I have recently upgraded my linux system from 7.1 to 7.3 However my modem is not working. I have an internal modem of Motorola sm56. Tried to install the rpm driver sm56_5.1_i386. While connecting it gives the message " Cannot open /dev/modem " Plz help to locate the problem.

As for my closed mind the above 19 yrs of battle and several thaousand reinstallaions and crash recoveries of windows has taken it's toll I suppose (not to mention the fact that development time and costs has been cut, performance of systems increased manifold, and great innovation is now possible using free software). [OT] Interesting Conversation

Hi! I had a conversation with my B.E. comp friend about Linux. Basically he is doing a project in VC++ fr:So you are doing project in Linux right ? me:yeah. C programming in Linux fr:Oh,does Linux have VB,VC ? me:No fr:hmm... so will my VC programs run on Linux? me:No fr:Then what's the use of Linux? I was stupified. (OK Windows programs can b emulated but still they cannot 'run' right ?) This is from a guy who had Operating Systems,System Programming,Microprocessor in his syllabus I guess the whole syllabus is 'DOS' oriented. ppl still cannot digest the fact that there are many other compilers other than the 'standard' Turbo C++ 3.0 Also I've observed that this is the general awareness/attitude of Comp. ppl abt Linux. I can only imagine what it must be like for Arts/Commerce/ ppl to understand what is Linux -- Nikhil
