NIT Calicut, formerly known as REC Calicut http://nitc.ac.in/ is hosting a two day FOSS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOSS event on 18th [Saturday] and 19th [Sunday] of March 2006 ( NITC FOSS Meet 2006 http://fci.wikicities.com/wiki/Calicut/NIT/FOSS_Meet/06). It is the second edition of the event [Last year it was called FLOSS Meet]

The event has grown from last years 4 speakers/3 talks/one day to 13 speakers/10 talks + 2 workshops/bofs and more/two days.
It is part of the ongoing effort from the FOSS EDU grouphttp://foss-edu-in.sarovar.org/to popularise FOSS among students. FOSS EDU group is started as an offort to provide FOSS Education tools customised for Indian educational institutions. The first step in this direction is to produce a dollar one encyclopediahttp://www.techmag.biz/dollar_one_encyclopedia, ie, to bring out a CD/DVD edition of wikipedia http://wikipedia.org/.

Hah, That reminds me of M.S.Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, where I attended workshop on embedded software in 2000(can't remember which year) and the program manager was so much interested in gnu/Linux that he right promised to host any related events. Last heard that couple of localization meets happened in its campus. Remember seeing tux logo on MSRSAS board for sometime.
Perhaps MSRSAS being post graduate only is also a very good place to conduct Free Software events.
