I didn't know this. Thanks for sending this. IITs are a product of Nehru's vision. Thinking about this I had jumped from techonology to economics. Did see a networking course and was impressive.
Though lot of people have criticism on Nehru's socialist vision : The fact is that the IIT's (and all the recognition they and their alumnus get) are an outcome of just those policies, "ensuring highest-quality education regardless of economic status"
This kind of high quality education - regardless of economic status is a very important need to today ...especially primary education - there are attempts to privatise and derail this - this will not do us good -
this is also an important example of what is possible when government can work keenly on community initiatives.
