HI all there are chances where the current syllabus of VTU could be changed the committee member s and the board of studies is quite open for discussion so there is a need for a strong and well articulated representation is needed so that VTU also gets convinced in order to make changes in the LABS and Subject where free softwares could be used instead of proprietary softwares

Yes, please do share the files. I think that we can discuss it this
Saturday afternoon/evening. It will be useful from my Institution's point of view too. We should form a team who can take this forward.

Yes! this is very much necessary. Being Engineers, we should make sure people are more closer to freedom and source code than just using software by clicking on 'I Accept' and 'Done' button.
Last year I attended 'Tuxedo-07' at SJCE -Mysore, I came to know that, the Electrical Branch there has all its branch converted to use GNU/Linux, (and its HOD has contributed to slackware project too). Sadly CS, EC, and IS branches were all lagging behind in migrating to GNU/Linux.
Sadly I can't attend this meet as I am not in the city now, but glad to hear about the plans/steps taken towards the same.
Regards, Amar
I will be there. -balaji

here is where the syllabus of VTU of BE -CSE,ISE , MCA, MTech ( different streams ) are uploaded
For time being on saturday let us discuss about the recommendations that have to be made
Since the appointment with the Board of Studies chairman is not yet fixed ( MAY BE WE HAVE ANOTHER 15-20 days time---- just guessing ) and also feedback and support from different colleges are yet to come ---- we have to work out a strategy ....
i will create a wiki page soon( since many more branches syllabus also are yet to come --- because for example in IEM ( industrial engineering and management- BE they use some statistical tool then in BE - Chemical also they use some softwares , then in bi tech also there are some issues ---- moreover for first year all branches commonly use solidedge --- which is first think where QCAD has to be suggested or may be a better one ---- so i am not creating the Page right now -- i will wait for those files to come ) and let us take up each branch separately and articulate the representation
