I could found out that Greenstone could be used for building Malayalam documents into digital libraries with possibility for Malayalam word search in its entire contents, if the documents are with Unicode. It is a novel thing. As well, I found out that Drupal can be used for building Malayalam sites with word search feature, which is not known to official creators of websites in the Government of Kerala like CDIT, IKM etc. It is told that no website keeps a search box except that of Google Custom Search whereas my dummy site in my computer with Drupal can do search with Malayalam words. As well, when I made a query on Decentralization community I did not know the practical things about Wikipedia. Now I have installed it in my computer and experimenting new things. Certainly, you have an instrumental role in my Wikipedia exploration too. The OJS system which you told me also is there in my computer. Your introduction to Anivar and some further contacts made me to explore some of these new things. Thank you very much for your mere introduction that turned good to me. Mail From RMS ============== I received a mail from RMS (Richard Mathew Stallman) , the founder of Free Software movement. He says First of all, congratulations on being the first free software activist to be physically attacked for a peaceful protest. This means our movement is gaining in stature ;-). He also commented about our campaign strategy ANIVAR> Most of the participants in the Conference were newbies and Novell is ANIVAR> the only GNU/Linux distro widely promoted in the exhibition. Our ANIVAR> protest is not targeted at Organizers or Novell. It was just a way to ANIVAR> spread awareness on Novell's evil trends through the posters to ANIVAR> prevent Novell's misguiding new users That's the right way to approach it. 2. ILUG Cochin's Event Report ==================== ILUG Cochin Released an Event Report about the event. The event Report says The series of events that happened was bad in terms of the organizers taking an unnecessary tough stand on the matter and not lending an ear to the actual facts. We were happy to raise our voice and protest with the Free Software community opposing the likes of forces like Novell. Indeed it was good to see a resistance in a programme of such magnitude like the National Conference. Although there is no doubt to the fact that the conference did its job, bringing people from all walks of life and ILUG Cochin did the job telling people the principles behind it, the opposition against Novell has also increased the significance and importance of the event thereby bringing about a lot of questions into the community which would not have been raised otherwise. 3. SMC's Statement ============= <snip> Members from SMC were part of the Programme Committee and the Souvenir Committee. There were no indication that Novell was the platinum sponsor of this Free Software Event. The organisers never communicated about the sponsorship and thus betrayed the whole Free Software community as Novell did. This is evident from the incidents that occurred after the peaceful campaign to boycott Novell by the SMC members & other Free Software Supporters present at the meeting. </snip> <snip> SMC takes this opportunity to deeply condemn the organisers decision to include Novell into the Free Software event. Does FSF-India want to continue the 'Boycott-Novell protest' by pasting posters over Novell posters and boards all over India? Will FSF-India condemn the cpim hijack news that came in Mangalam and Newage Business ? The hijack view is expressed by many who are associated with FSF-India. Will FSF-India disassociate from such comments? If FSF-India takes any decision on these, who all will be bounded by that? Can any one 'escape' the decision by representing any other group? During the decision making who all will be heard in the process? How can FSF-India make sure that the communities' concerns at large can be addressed? Regards, Haynes

PART - 3 (This is a continuation of PART-1 & PART - 2. So first read PART-1& PART -2 and then read PART- 3) A Glimpse into The FSF Conference - CUSAT Ah, the drama version alias the one-man-show! Organizers asked the posters to be removed triggering the one-man-show exponentially. I came across numerous mails/blogs/messages that a mob of 20 was protesting. But this one big man was being recorded by the rest in their respective hi-technology cell phones - and the man was happy and on fire. 20 minutes after this incident - pics & movies in various angles were posted online - the very proof to the above fact. Before attempting any intentional-publicity-claim, informing the media is a dirty trick played so often by many such small 'organizations'. He knew it, the samurai, and now we know it, watching his moves n movies in the videos recorded. Allies arrived flying for rescue aid in 20 minutes after the show-off started - now that makes me suspicious (just me or even you?). A 'press conference' threat raised by this gentleman incase the poster is not removed before the arrival of CM proves his/their intention to the core line. The University Registrar made a polite request, but then he had his own standards of replying dirty - and so he was asked to stepped off (instead of being slapped off). Glimpsing through the Conference Organizers let me put my view in this regard. Free Software has to be FREE as the name says - no possessor in terms of the giants in this arena, no patent and nobody enjoys cumulative accounts. People who have been earning money couching idly in their bedroom cushions are scared when CPM, who has a massive and valiant history of struggle against capitalism and monopoly, is promoting free software. CPM is supporting a fetus in this arena of Software World and must be supported by all. If the people who messed and the people who organized happen to be the same, I truly believe you have affronted your own organization and give your heart and soul to your cause next time and better keep things at your home within your walls! Criticizers... I do understand that growth and criticism seems to be parallel but they meet only after realizing that the blogs and mails you use for complimentary, to criticize but actually has to be colossally appreciated, has the tinge and scent of the sweat, pain and blood of these organizers. plans for RMS visit

Hi, The following is the plan.. 1) Slum computer Center : Book Release by RMS ( time and date not yet fixed to be confirmed by Arun ) . Story of the slum computer center. - We will have paintings also in the center during RMS visit - This will be in the new gurupanpalaya slum , behind ibm - this saturday we have a meeting at 11 in the community and anybody is welcome to join - we will 2) Kannada bloggers : - A meeting with Girish Kasaravalli and the other bloggers is in plan for the weekend - U.R Anandamurthy , Nemichandra are some of the writers who can join us. - A prelimnary discussion has already happened and they have expressed keen interest in free software 3) IISc - Content preparation work is on - we should have the site up on "IIIsc - Myth of IP " soon - A basic discussion with a few IISc students who brought the issue forward over phone - they are keen on RMS visit ( anivar has talked to gilesh - we will meet all of them during the campaign phase) . We will also organise a meeting at IIsc - Redhat Venky, Prof Gopinat IISc have expressed support. We will try and meet more of them as part of the run up thanks Senthil
